Marc Karwaser

C'est au milieu du premier enfermement qu'est né Marc Karwaser, de son nom de naissance, alias Marc Ben Chemoul. Il décide de mettre la photographie au cœur de son existence.

Comme dans ses multiples vies, Marc Karwaser observe et apprend des meilleurs. Homme de contraste, arrogant en apparence mais nuancé, il aborde la photographie comme l'expression de ses paradoxes. Près de 100 000 photos plus tard, la recherche de l'expression humaine dans une logique d'espace sans limite ou d'environnements exigus, voire lugubres, s'impose comme un prolongement naturel de sa personnalité.

Marc Karwaser cultive la philosophie de l'instant, le moment à saisir sans trop d'artifice. S'il attache une grande importance à la scénographie, il cultive la proximité et le partage avec ses modèles avec lesquels il s'entretient longuement, avant chaque collaboration. A 45 ans, Marc Karwaser consacre ses deux premières expositions, d'une dizaine de clichés chacune : “The No Limit Project” et “The underground project”. Toutes ses photos sont exposées sans titre : “Sans commentaire... Liberté”, nous dit-il.

“Mon "No Limit Project", quand je l'ai pensé, avait l'ambition de s’opposer le temps, l'espace, la lumière et d'inscrire l'expression humaine dans son unicité. J'aspirais alors à offrir un sentiment de liberté, pourtant enfermé dans une dimension.

It is in the middle of the first imprisonment that Marc Karwaser, of his birth name, alias Marc Ben Chemoul, was born. He decides to put photography at the heart of his existence.

As in his multiple lives, Marc Karwaser observes and learns from the best. A man of contrasts, arrogant in appearance but nuanced, he approaches photography as the expression of his paradoxes. Nearly 100,000 photos later, the search for human expression in a logic of limitless space or cramped, even gloomy environments, is a natural extension of his personality.

Marc Karwaser cultivates the philosophy of the moment, the moment to be seized without too much artifice. If he attaches great importance to the scenography, he cultivates the proximity and the sharing with his models with whom he talks at length, before each collaboration. At 45 years old, Marc Karwaser dedicates his first two exhibitions, of about ten pictures each: "The No Limit Project" and "The underground project". All his photos are exhibited without a title: "Without comment... Freedom", he says.
