Stéphane Parain
Né en 1985, Stéphane Parain vit et travaille à Paris. Sculpteur et plasticien français contemporain, l’artiste a récemment collaboré avec l’artiste RERO. Il offre la vision originale de son art, en proposant sa définition de l’apophénie : l’illusion de la perception. Prenant la forme de sculptures ou d’installations, son œuvre est influencée par l’esthétique de la sculpture classique, la scénographie du décor de théâtre et l’art urbain. Il questionne dans son travail l’aspect transitoire de la matière en s’appuyant sur la temporalité, l’organique et le structurel, pour y faire apparaître un monde où se côtoient l’invisible et le fantastique.
“L’Apophénie est la tendance à percevoir et établir des connexions entre les choses, en apparence sans rapport. C’est un nuage qui prend la forme d’un visage, un alignement d’étoiles nous évoquant une casserole, un futur dans une tâche de café. Un glissement depuis la réalité vers un imaginaire ou vers un inconscient, qu’il soit individuel ou collectif. Des métamorphoses se succèdent et se racontent, mêlant la vie et la fiction, le réel et l’illusoire. Si l’Art a longtemps pris la nature pour modèle, le sculpteur s’empare d’une pluralité de matières pour l’imiter, l’incarner et la réinventer, rejoignant l’Art du trompe-l’œil et de l’illusion, propre à la société du spectacle. Ses œuvres se jouent de notre regard et nous mentent pour mieux nous atteindre.”
Born in 1985, Stéphane Parain lives and works in Paris. French contemporary sculptor and visual artist, the artist has recently collaborated with the artist RERO. He offers an original vision of his art, by proposing his definition of apophenia: the illusion of perception. Taking the form of sculptures or installations, his work is influenced by the aesthetics of classical sculpture, the scenography of theater sets and urban art. In his work, he questions the transitory aspect of matter by relying on temporality, the organic and the structural, to bring to light a world where the invisible and the fantastic exist side by side.
"Apophenia is the tendency to perceive and establish connections between seemingly unrelated things. It is a cloud that takes the form of a face, a line of stars that evokes a pan, a future in a coffee stain. A shift from reality to an imaginary or unconscious, whether individual or collective. Metamorphoses follow one another and are told, mixing life and fiction, the real and the illusory. If Art has long taken nature as a model, the sculptor seizes a plurality of materials to imitate, embody and reinvent it, joining the Art of trompe-l'oeil and illusion, specific to the society of the spectacle. His works play with our eyes and lie to us to better reach us."
